At first, I was a bit upset about the price of camping here, until I got here. This place is so well kept, has so so much to offer and is probably the best campsite I've ever been to. I have been to campsites all over vancouver island over the last 30 years. They have a pool, rec room, showers that are very clean, bathrooms everywhere, the most unbelievable river access, most friendly staff I've ever encountered. 10/10.

Three families came with 16 children....all related. Very kid friendly. Clean heated pool. Free kids crafts. Outdoor movie on Friday on huge inflatable screen....we saw Trolls. Large field and big paved pad with hockey nets. Cheap 18 hole mini gold course. Large clubhouse with couches, board games, jigsaw puzzles tv etc. for rainy days. Kids fav was the general store with cheap candy. Grownups appreciated clean washrooms, nice showers, great laundry room and friendly kind staff. Good hours designated for kids. Children must be supervised by grownup 19.and up which I found reasonable and necessary. Great place for multiple children.

Tenting sites were spacious and the staff were friendly. The atmosphere is very laid back a great weekend getaway, will plan to come back in the future, thanks country maples for making my stay with you always a relaxing one !

This campground has a lot going for it: - a clean pool that appears to be well maintained - a nearby river that folks can swim in (albeit the river is down a very steep slope so not for those who have mobility issues) - plenty of forest to enjoy while walking around - wifi for $3 per device per day if needed - security that drives around ensuring folks are quiet during quiet hours (with a phone# you can call if there are issues) - clear set out rules for expectations of folks to keep control of their kids so they aren't out making loud noise late at night in the playground or pool area. - a number of playgrounds - a small bike track area in the forest - a convenience store - mini golf ($18 for family of 4) - free activities for kids (movie nights & crafts) Although it may seem like with the long list above this place should have five stars, there is a number of things I didn't love: - when you make a reservation online (as a non member) you don't know what site you are paying for - there are a number of sites that are not forested and have no privacy (parking lot style) and many that have limited privacy and are close to things like the pool that are noisy until quiet time. I don't like that sites are assigned when you arrive and if you request a certain area or site there is no guarantee of getting it. This park is not cheap - full service runs almost $100 a night after taxes/fees and you just don't know what you're going to get. Some sites are very clearly better than others but everyone pays the same based on if they have full or partial service. Many full service sites are smaller and less private than others. - many sites are right on top of their neighbours so if you are used to provincial parks with privacy and space this is not comparable for 90% of this park. However if you're used to the parking lot style of RV park this is better than that (or equivalent in some areas of the campground). - if you are tenting there are not many washrooms for use - I think only 2 and the stalls are the smallest stalls (narrow) that I think I've ever been in - but they are clean. - signage isn't great when finding your site, there is very limited signage explaining which sites are where. However they do hand you a map when you arrive. - we were not near the Sani dump but we are close to the pool and we fairly regularly smell septic at our site, I'm not sure where it's coming from but it has been at our site each day for a period of the day. - as mentioned above there is a river but the access to the river is not easy, there is a steep slope with a rope to hold onto when trying to get down there but it's quite steep and I could see folks getting hurt trying to get down there. - just as a note - there is no longer an arcade so if you see prior reviews or maps that include the arcade it seems to be shut down now. - Lastly, the road getting into the campground after registration is very steep and narrow, I would not like to run into another large rig in either direction. It would be a problem. There is only one road in/out.

Warning: Long term residents throw rocks at vehicles. I stayed here with my extended family for 10 days. It was fine except one day my dad complained that someone was yelling at him to slow down and he was already driving slowly. A couple days later I was driving very slowly (around 10kmph, only slightly faster than a walking pace), and I heard a rock ping off the side of my newish car and some guy yelled slow down. We jumped out of the car expecting to find some kids causing trouble, but were surprised to find a group of adults around retirement age. The rock thrower (easily identified by his combative posture) along with about 8 other long-termers were sitting out around an RV, apparently looking for trouble. The rock thrower maintained that we couldn't prove anything and it was my fault for not driving at whatever speed he deemed "safe." Management got quickly involved as they happened to be passing by at the time. They let the rock thrower and guests off with what they described as a stern warning for their totally inappropriate behavior and asked us to call if there was any more trouble. I have a hard time believing that this was the first rock this guy has thrown. Note to management: If you want people to stay here, you'd better get the long term renters under control or send them on their way. Property damage crosses so many lines and demands a strong response.
