Here are some tips and considerations based on recent visitor experiences:

  • The campsite is ideally located for easy access to beaches, shops, and local attractions, making it a great base for outdoor activities and exploration.
  • Visitors have noted that the campground is quite crowded with sites placed closely together, potentially affecting privacy and noise levels.
  • Bathroom facilities reportedly need improvement, with issues such as cleanliness and lack of supplies like toilet paper being frequent concerns.
  • Some guests reported a lack of security and control over noise levels, especially during nights when tournaments or group events occur.
  • The campground seems to have undergone changes in recent years, with increased site numbers and the removal of trees, affecting the environment’s natural charm and shade.

Overall Thoughts: Gateway Camping offers a strategic location for those aiming to explore the surrounding area, but potential guests should weigh location benefits against the apparent compromises in onsite amenities and privacy. It might not fully meet expectations for those desiring a quiet, family-oriented camping experience.

Overpriced and overcrowded campground. There doesn't seem to be any rules about noise levels as there were people making excessive noise until 2 or 3 am, so we were not able to sleep much since everyone was so close together. Definitely not the "clean and quiet family campground" advertised on the website. The bathrooms were dirty and showers barely working. We booked 2 nights but left after 1. The location was convenient so that's good if you're willing to sacrifice everything else.

Campground is in a great location. Walking distance to the beach and multitudes of restaurants and stores. We biked many of the trails around Georgian Bay. So this was a great spot to use as a home base to explore the area and have the camping experience. Yes the park/ sites are small but we saw many larger RVs/trailers pulling in and they did fine. Again..because there is a lot do outside of the campground..this is just a quiet place to come back to at end of day. Cook dinner..have a fire..drinks and relax. We enjoyed our week here and would come back again.

Upon arriving at the camp ground it was apparent that the space on the map was exaggerated. The spaces are very crammed together. Within feet of you are lucky. The bathrooms are super tight with almost no room to change in. The shower areas were okay. By Sunday the bathrooms had zero toilet paper and hand towels. The site advertises a pool. However we arrived on Friday and by Sunday it was still unavailable. Over all if we ever come back to Wasaga we will be searching for another camp ground. While the convince of the location was good the over all experience was not.

When we arrived we couldn't believe how ill kept the campground is now. We have been coming for years and it used to be so well maintained, but now some of the sites are filthy and it's very disorganized. It wasn't clear where our sites were, we had booked two, and we were told to spread out where we needed to, but it seemed like even the staff didn't understand which sites were ours exactly. And they had allowed a random truck to park on part of our site too. Then we dealt with new campers coming thinking we were on their site and none of us understood where we were supposed to be. There were cigarette butts and bottle caps all over, and the fire pit was still smoking, with plastic obviously tossed in it. The fire pits had also been moved around, so it made it hard to figure out where to put the tents, on already tiny sites, with soot and ash everywhere. They've cut down trees too so there was no shade at all. We left after one night. My daughter requested a refund when she first arrived amidst the disorganization, because she had her baby with her, which was denied. The washrooms were old but relatively clean, but no toilet paper in the morning.

Campground has gone down hill since we were last there about 20 years ago. A lot of trees have been cut down to create more campsites. Not really any privacy anymore. Washrooms are okay, but need renovated. Absolutely no security on site. During our stay there was some sort of boys hockey tryouts/tournament going on and there were a lot of young teenagers running around the park being very loud and disturbing until 1:30 am. Would not really recommend, nothing like it use to be.
