Two experienced Parks Canada staff will point you in the right direction for walks or hike. The centre itself is a converted ranchers cabin and has a collection of local artifacts from indigenous art, to buffalo hides to dinosaur fossils you can hold. They also handle booking for the nearby Rock Creek campground recently upgraded. Ice and a few food items are for sale. A day-use area is next door with a covered kitchen area. One MUST see is the newly opened 11 km Badlands Parkway running across the top of the buttes. It is paved and gives access to 4 sets of Parks Canada red chairs overlooking the badlands. Stunning views. Three excellent hikes start at the centre. Ask about them.

Nice little center. Friendly staff, clean facilities, good hours. The day use center is very valuable when fire bans are on. They have BBQs and a sandbox for the kids. I attached a picture of the red chairs at the end of the Valley of 1000 Devil's hike. The trail brochure is picked up from the visitor center and the staff can help you find the trail head (it's visible from the center).

COVID-19 update: You can speak to the staff through a small window but cannot go into the visitor’s centre. Parks Canada will not allow you to borrow a GPS or use the water taps, so bring tons of water and download your trails before you arrive (cell reception is spotty at best). There is a good picnic bench (covered) to take a brief respite from the sun and to have lunch. The otentiks and tipis are also closed. There’s no shade cover elsewhere in the park, so be prepared!
