Shadow Lake Centre
Shadow Lake Centre is a unique camp specifically designed for individuals with special needs. It offers a variety of engaging programs and activities aimed at providing an enjoyable and memorable camping experience. Despite its noble mission, the facility has received mixed reviews from visitors. Some have highlighted the warmth and dedication of the staff, praising particular members for their effort in creating a fun and inclusive environment. Activities such as canoeing and trail rides are well-liked by campers. However, the camp has also faced criticism regarding the living conditions and some aspects of the management. Issues with cleanliness, bed bugs, and poor communication have been pointed out by others. This feedback suggests a range of experiences at the camp, which may vary greatly depending on individual circumstances.
Important Considerations
- Special Needs Focus: The camp is designed for individuals with special needs, which is a significant advantage for families looking for tailored support.
- Staff Interaction: Some staff members are noted for their exceptional care and interaction with campers.
- Activities: Canoeing, trail rides, and other activities are highlights for many campers.
- Living Conditions: Reports of bed bugs, dusty accommodations, and foul-smelling water are areas of concern.
- Communication: Issues with staff being unavailable, unresponsive management, and lack of feedback during and after camp have been reported.
Overall Thoughts
Shadow Lake Centre appears to provide a valuable service for families with special needs individuals through engaging activities and notable staff efforts. However, it falls short in areas critical to camper comfort and health. Addressing these concerns, particularly regarding cleanliness and communication, could significantly improve the overall experience.

This camp is for special needs people. When we arrived, we spent an hour in the camp before leaving. The counselor that was supposed to work with my child was on the break. She was not there to meet my child and myself. Obviously, parents and caregivers of special needs people have tips and recommendations of how to care and help their loved ones. The camp failed at the very first step: meeting and talking with parents. My sensitive-to-noise child was placed in the cabin with yelling roommate. Tap water smells disgusting. I could not drink it. The only place to get filtered water is kitchen. When it was time to pick up my child, she was brought to me in a warm sweater zipped up all way through. It was 27 degrees Celsius outside. The person brought me my child, gave the bags and left. He was not my child's counselor. He could not share what my child was doing at the camp, if it was enjoyable experience or not. There was no report or any feedback. Simply, here is your child, here is your bag. Bye! When I reached out to camp, saying that my child's shoes are missing, there was NO reply, NO acknowledgement, nothing. They simply did not care about my child or her belongings. It was a miserable experience and I would never trust them my child any more.

I Just wanted to do a shout out to ALL of my friends THE STAFF for an exciting and fun week , I did enjoy every minute of it. But I must give you 2 honourable mentions and 2 Shout Outs to the 2 VIP'S that I got to spend some of my time with while I was there at Shadow Lake. That First person is our very Own Director and overall the Greatest guy is Mohamed Irashad AKA MO , I just wanted to thank Mohamed for allowing me to spend some time with you and chatting with you , up in the office and for that I sincerely can't thank you enough for your time well spent. And secondly that other person that took his time away from his work is Coner Varga who has recently moved onto other things to further his achievements in his life. I was able to spend some time with him as well , both Coner and I went on a canoe ride along the side of the lake , and also took a very fun fun fun just riding along the trails of the camp in the O Ride , I really had the BEST TIME on that Joyride and I must admit it was alot of fun for sure. From the bottom of my Heart I really much want to thank you for that but not just for that but for Also just being THE PERSON WHO YOU ARE AND JUST BEING MY FRIEND is just the added touch. So NEVER EVER CHANGE ANYTHING. I just like you for being you , My Friend Always.

During a camp in March, I volunteered at this facility and unfortunately, it was a terrible experience. The food portions served were extremely small, leaving the kids practically starving all weekend. To make matters worse, there was a BED BUG breakout in the boys' cabin. The overall facility was dirty, dusty, and the water had a foul odor.
