Tips and Considerations
- Great Views: Many spots offer scenic views of the surrounding mountains and ridges.
- Privacy: The campground provides well-distanced sites which ensure privacy.
- Facilities: Limited and not well-maintained; consider being self-sufficient.
- Restrooms: Only one port-a-potty per section, reportedly not very clean.
- Staff Presence: Low to non-existent, with the office often found closed.
- Rules Enforcement: Lax, with some reports of rule violations not being addressed.
- Road Conditions: Poorly maintained roads with significant potholes; not recommended for RVs or campers.
- Scenery: While some areas offer beautiful sights, others may have no significant views.
Overall Thoughts
Stoney Park Campgrounds presents a mixed bag of experiences. While some visitors appreciate the beautiful views and well-spaced sites ideal for families, others have highlighted significant issues with cleanliness, lack of staff, poor road conditions, and general maintenance concerns. If basic amenities are not a high priority for you and you come prepared, this campground could offer a serene and scenic escape. However, for more convenience and cleanliness, other options might be preferable.

There are many great spots for reservation across this very large campground. There are pleasant views along the ridge and in certain sections. Personally I was in a more covered and foliage section C, but this was still a good section with tables and fire pit and a nearby port a potty. These areas are all distanced relatively well from others. The site manager (I presume) at the office was also very friendly. I would definitely go again and is a spacious place for family camping.

Campsite was beautiful. Excellent space for backing into the site (we were in "D"). Beautiful scenery. However, there were several issues. There was ONE port-a-potty per camping section. So, it serviced FAR too many sites and was absolutely disgusting. We didn't see even one staff in our 5 day/4night stay. No cleaning staff. No staff enforcing rules (there was some sort of reunion going on in the 3 sites next to us and there were 6 tents and 2 RVs on 3 sites. People partying till 3am, and fires being burnt even though fire ban in effect) The office was not open even though we checked at least 7 times. The trash was massively overflowing. Overall, if you don't care about any of that, it's fine. But if you do care, it's a backup if all else fails. The roads are very poorly maintained as well, but that can be explained by the fact it is on reservation land and the Alberta Government is not maintaining them.

There is one single pit toilet on the campground and you’ll need your car to get there. Same with the shower rooms. These are at least in good condition. Some spots have a great view of the mountain range which is probably the only part you’ll like about this place. If you don’t have another place to stay this will do for a night, but I wouldn’t stay here for any other reason.

Fine camping if you stay with a camper van with toilet included. The toilets there are just disgusting, horrible. In addition, they don't have a chart with the prices, and we felt a bit fooled and overcharged. Also, it is a lawless place, a bit dark and with strange people.

I would not stay here again. It was sad to discover the state of the roads leading to the campgrounds. The gravel roads were not maintained, they had some significant pot holes. This is not a drive I would recommend for anyone with an RV or camper. We stayed in section D, the only section with power, which is about a 10-15 minute drive from the office, with no views. We stayed 3 nights and the office never opened. They do not have water, and they had about 25 work trucks and campers blocking the dump station. The only bathrooms are porta potties, and there are no showers.
